Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

Happy Retirement Grandma Sue

We had a really good time at Grandma Sue's retirement party. Of course, any time our staff gets together we have a good time. That's the honest truth. We like each other and we like working together. But I must say I had mixed feelings about this retirement. Grandma Sue and I have worked and shared an office for almost 19 years. That's longer than most of you have been alive!

We've been friends as well as co-workers. Her talents lay in crafts, mine in story time and we both share a crazy sense of humor. She loves children and enjoys teasing and joking with them. I know that you as well as I will miss her. She says she will come back and volunteer. I sure hope so!!

Sue has worked for the City of Pomona for almost 25 years. She was presented a "Goddess of Pomona" statue with her name on it and the dates that she worked for the city. She was also presented a retirement pin with the picture of the goddess on it. Our good friend Allan wrote several haikus that were inspired by Sue which was a lot of fun.

All in all it went quite well. It certainly will be different around here without her. Please come in often and speak to us so we won't miss her so much!

Joke of the day: What will Grandma Sue be doing in her retirement?
Answer: Re-tire her car. :) Ha!

Even tho we don't come to the library as much as we used to, I will certainly miss Grandma Sue
:( But I am happy for her. And slightly jealous of the Goddess statue she gets. She earned it. Thanks, Sue.

Hi Goddess,

Yes, her goddess is beautiful. The City gives goddesses to emplyees that have been with them for at least 20 years. I will be elible for one next year but I have to retire to get it. That's not going to happen for a while! (I've got to see Mr. Big reach at least 18!) :)

Is she going to volunteer like the ladies did for the Reading Buddies program?

I think she will volunteer to do crafts but who knows? I'll tell her you commented and that you would like to show her your sewing. I'm sure she would like to see it. Take care our former resident teen!
