Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

No Homework Help Today

Hello young Pomonans! Sorry to say there will be no Homework Help today. Cal Poly Pomona celebrates Cesar Chavez's birthday and they shut down all of their classes and projects. I apologize that we didn't get this information to you sooner but we just found out yesterday.

Two posts back I posted a homework help line you can use. Use that today and our Homework Help Center will be back tomorrow.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Joke of the day: How do you cure a headache?
Answer: Put your head through the window and the pane will just disappear!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day from our friend Abbit the Average!

Happy green day, young Pomonans! Our friend, Abbit the Average, is one of my favorite children's entertainers. We have him most every year and no one ever tires of his sense of humor or the fun he has with children.

I am fortunate to be on his e-mail list and look forward to holidays when he sends out his fun holiday cheer. Here is his St. Patrick's day good cheer:

Advice for the day: Don't iron your shamrocks or you'll be pressing your luck.

Joke of the day: Why do so many people live in Ireland?
Answer: Because the capital is always Dublin. ;)

Thank you Jeff Abbit, our own Abbit the Average for always sending humor into our lives!

Congratulations Lizeth!

Good Friday, young Pomonans! I got permission from Lizeth's parents to post about her. Lizeth won a reading award at Mendoza's Dr. Seuss day. She won the award from not just her own Kindergarten class but she won the award of ALL the Kindergarten classes at her school!!

We are so proud of you, Lizeth! We are especially proud because Lizeth and her family are regular patrons of the Pomona Public Library and we count them as our own. Her parents say that Lizeth loves to read. Good for her! That will help you out your whole life, Lizeth! It will help you in school and it will help you learn many things when you read for fun as well.

Kudos to Lizeth and may she be an example to us all.

Joke of the day: How do you learn to play golf?
Answer: Take a golf course. ;)

A Great Day of Dr. Seuss

Today is Dr. Seuss' birthday, young Pomonans! We had a story time with Dr. Seuss' stories and then we had a craft. The craft was a Dr. Seuss door hanger. As you can see in the picture, it was double sided with one side saying, "Come in come play with me and the Cat in the Hat today." The other side says, "Please stay away I'm reading with the Grinch today." It all was great fun!

Do you know how old Dr. Seuss would be if he were alive today? He was born in 1904 and would be 106 today!

Did you know that Dr. Seuss once came to the Pomona Public Library? The pictures of him in this post was of a picture he gave us when he was here at the Pomona Public Library. If you can't read what he wrote on his picture it says: "With best wishes to my friends at the Pomona Public Library." How cool is that?

Have a great 106th birthday, Dr. Seuss.

Joke of the day: Why did the man take a pencil to bed?
Answer: To draw the curtains!
I'd tell you another pencil joke but it doesn't have any point! ;)
