More Homework Assistance Center Photos
I was impressed with the number of you that turned out. It shows how successful our Homework Center really is.
The other thing I was impressed with is how well Daniel and his volunteers cleaned up after you all. When I came in Friday morning there was absolutely no evidence that you all had been here. Wow!
We have more exiting events to come. Stay tuned!
Joke of the day: Why did the sun get straight A's?

Homework Assistance Center Halloween Party

Wow! Did we ever have a party yesterday afternoon. Our Homework Assistance Center went all out to have a great party for everyone. Daniel, our Americorps Promise Fellow from Cal Poly Pomona, did an outstanding job putting this together. The Homework Center worked with kids on their homework from 4-5pm and then had this great party out on the patio from 5-6pm. A GREAT time was had by all. The volunteers who worked with Daniel worked hard at setting up, blowing up balloons, decorating, etc.Daniel is really good at encouraging businesses to donate what they can to the center and he had some really great decorations that were donated from the community. He found these two big awesome pinatas that were full to the brim. One child was hitting the pinata so hard that the rest of us gave him plenty of space!
The party was a huge success and the credit goes to Daniel and his volunteers. We at the library are so lucky to have such talented students volunteer their time here. College students are busy anyway and to have them give us so much of their time is really great.
If you have not been to our Homework Assistance Center yet, please come in and experience it for yourselves. You'll meet some great college students and get your homework done at the same time.
Our Homework Assistance Center hours are: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:00-6:00pm. See you here!
Joke of the day: What do witches use in their hair?
Answer: Scare-spray. ;)

Kids: Pizza Party - Celebrate Homework Support Center

Kids: Pizza Party - Celebrate Homework Support Center's First Year! June 10 @ Main Library
Originally uploaded by Hayward Public Library
I would love to take pictures of these events but I didn't see parents to ask their permission. Our highest priority is the safety of our children and every parent has the right not to give permission for their child's picture to be on the internet.
But know that a "good time was had by all." We had pizza, games awards, and a whole lot of fun. A big thank you goes to Heather Morgan, an Americorps fellow from the Center for Community Service-Learning at Cal Poly Pomona.
Joke of the day: What do ducks serve at parties?
Answers: Quackers and cheese! :)

Cal Poly Homework Assistance Party a HUGE Success!

Our homework center party rocked! Again, I didn't get everyone's picture because I didn't have parental consent, but I did get quite a few for you to see how much fun and food we had!
As you can see we had a celebrity appearance by Billy, the Bronco, mascot of Cal Poly Pomona. What a treat! He was very polite and didn't scarf down all of the pizza!
Jonathon, who is holding his reading achievement certificate, shared with everyone how much the homework center has helped him. That was FANTASTIC!!! Honestly, I don't want to say things a million times over but this Homework Center is a winning situation for all involved. The Cal Poly students relate so well to the children and the children love it! We all love it!
The homework center is open to all children in first through sixth grade. If you need help, help is here. If you just don't want to do your homework by yourself, come on in and you'll have plenty of company. The center will be closed for the holidays but will open up Tuesday January 6th from 4:00-6:00pm.
Hooray for Cal Poly and the Homework Assistance Center!
Another joke of the day: What do you get if Santa goes down the chimney when a fire is lit?
Answer: Crisp Kringle! :)
