Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

Happy Retirement Grandma Sue

We had a really good time at Grandma Sue's retirement party. Of course, any time our staff gets together we have a good time. That's the honest truth. We like each other and we like working together. But I must say I had mixed feelings about this retirement. Grandma Sue and I have worked and shared an office for almost 19 years. That's longer than most of you have been alive!

We've been friends as well as co-workers. Her talents lay in crafts, mine in story time and we both share a crazy sense of humor. She loves children and enjoys teasing and joking with them. I know that you as well as I will miss her. She says she will come back and volunteer. I sure hope so!!

Sue has worked for the City of Pomona for almost 25 years. She was presented a "Goddess of Pomona" statue with her name on it and the dates that she worked for the city. She was also presented a retirement pin with the picture of the goddess on it. Our good friend Allan wrote several haikus that were inspired by Sue which was a lot of fun.

All in all it went quite well. It certainly will be different around here without her. Please come in often and speak to us so we won't miss her so much!

Joke of the day: What will Grandma Sue be doing in her retirement?
Answer: Re-tire her car. :) Ha!

A Very Strange Monday Here at PPL

Grandma Sue and Ms. Nissa both called in sick today and I had a family emergency that kept me out until around 1:15pm. In other words our whole department was gone! I've been here 18 years and that's never happened before! Very strange!

I put the picture of our craft back up because we are doing it this Wednesday! (I hope we all won't call in sick again!) No, I'm sure today was a fluke. :)

Our activities this week are:

Infant Storytime

Infant story time is every Thursday at 12:15pm. Grandma Sue does an excellent job with the babies. With children's music in the background the babies play with toys and interact with others as well as their Moms (or caregivers.) Several short stories are read and Moms (or caregivers) can interact as well. Stop on in, it's a lot of fun!

Joke of the day: What is the best way to talk to a monster with bad breath?
Answer: By telephone. :)

Space Bug Craft

The Space bugs were a hit! Everyone's bug looked different because all of you are different. We had space bugs with spiked hair, space bugs with stars for eyes, yellow bugs, pinks bugs, red bugs, bugs, bugs, bugs! It was fun and as usual Grandma Sue did a great job explaining things to you. (She let me pass out the eyes, nose, and mouths.) The pressure was tough! (Crafts aren't my thing.)

Tomorrow we have Wonders of Wildlife coming with bugs and animals. I mentioned before that they made me eat a mealworm before. I have decided to share the joy with my co-workers! The problem is that Ms. Nissa is out of town tomorrow (very convienent) and Grandma Sue says she will hurl if she tries. So come in and see what happens. You'll either find a hurling Grandma Sue or a grossed out Ms. Lois. Should be interesting!

Joke of the day: What do you get when you mix Snoopy and Sunday brunch?
Answer: A beagle and cream cheese. ;)

Ms. Nissa and Grandma Sue

This is Ms. Nissa and Grandma Sue having fun at Ms. Nissa's party. Digital camera's are so fun, especially when you are the one with the camera!

Jokes for the day: Did you hear the story about the skunk?
Answer: Never mind, it stinks.

What did the duck say when he'd finished shopping?
Answer: Put it on my bill please.

What's the difference between a fish and a piano?
Answer: You can't tuna fish.

See you all on Monday. :)
