Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

The Big Read Book Carts

For the five weeks of the Big Read, individual departments in the library decorated book carts for the era of the 1930's. This particular book cart was put together by the Reference department. As you can see this was a spectacular effort. Their theme was the movies of the 1930's. They have pictures of movie stars, movies that came out in the 1930's. If you look under the cart you can see witch's feet with ruby slippers on from the Wizard of Oz that came out in the 1930's. There is a replica of an Oscar sitting in the center and of course you have to have a red carpet with names of the movie stars. This is really a fabulous effort. Kudos to our friends in Reference!

(Our cart is due out next Wednesday. Our theme is radio and music in the 1930's. Got any ideas????)

Joke of the day: How is a movie like a broken leg?
Answer: They both need a cast. :)
