Two Special Programs at PPL
Hello young Pomonans! Yesterday and today we had two special programs here at the library.
Yesterday we had the Boys and Girls Club from Madison Elementary school here for a visit. Ms. Nissa gave them a tour of the library and then I had a "booktalk" for them. They were third and fourth graders so I couldn't just read them picture books. I found books that they might not have heard of and talked about them. I have so much fun telling a story and then not telling them the ending. They have to read it to see what happened. That is great fun to do! I talked about "Hatchet", by Gary Paulsen; "The Magic Tree House" series by Mary Pope Osborne. The "Boxcar Series" by Gertrude Warner and actually read them, "Tikki Tikki Tembo" by Arlene Mosel. I didn't bother going into "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid" or "Twilight" because they already know about those.
Today our group was from San Jose Elementary. They came in two large buses. They were six graders and they toured City Hall, the Counsel Chambers and the library. They were all very well behaved and asked really good questions.
If you would like a tour of the library, give us a call. You need to be located in the City of Pomona. Our telephone number is: (909) 620-2043 ext. 2730.
Let us hear from you!
Joke of the day: How can you get your ballpoint pen to march?
Answer: Yell, "Left! Write! Left! Write, Left!" :)

ROAAR!HAPPY WEEKEND,MY FRIENDS!
Have a great weekend young Pomonans! If you think there is nothing to do on weekends, think again! Our beautiful parks are open. Why not go for a picnic and then over to the library? You can either study, do homework or play on the computers. Remember that you must have your library cards if you want to go on the computers.
Saturdays are usually our busiest day. I would suggest not coming right when we open but wait until after 3:00pm. We usually calm down by then. If we haven't, sorry!
Again, have a great weekend and take care of all those beautiful pets out there.
Joke of the day: Why are elephants ashamed to go to the beach?
Answer: Because they have a hard time keeping their trunks up! :)

Happy Earth Day!
It's Earth Day, young Pomonans! How many times have we heard to "go green" or "save the earth"? It's all true. If we don't take care of our environment, you won't have any world to grow up in, much less your own children.
What can we do to help our planet? Plenty. You can not litter. You can recycle. Plant a garden. Use recycled products. Talk to your friends and family about what you all can do together to keep our earth clean.
Pomona is a beautiful city. We have trees blue skies and warm temperatures. If we all do our part in caring about the environment, change will happen.
The tree you see posted above is one of my favorite trees in Pomona. It is at Kellogg Park and seems like a very happy and healthy tree. Why not appreciate Earth Day by going to a Pomona park to enjoy our beautiful city?
Joke of the day: Why did the tree sign up for extra classes?
Answer: It need to branch out. :)

Jackie at home at PPL
Hello young Pomonans! Jackie was officially added to our Doll Collection this morning. She is standing near Winston Churchill and Mary Poppins. That's quite a group! We took the hairnet off her hair and added her earrings and necklace. She looks incredible! Come on in and see her.
This weekend marks the opening of the Fox Theater. How many of your Parents are going? I love that theater because I remember when I was in grade school we would go to movies there and I was so overwhelmed by the building. The inside was red velvet everywhere and it was so huge! When it stopped being a theater I refused to go back inside because I wanted to keep my memories intact.
Now that it is renovated I may just change my mind. If you have a chance to go in, please do.
Joke of the day: How do you keep a computer's breath fresh?
Answer: Give it a docu-mint. :)

Poem of the day: I love to do my homework
It makes me feel so good
I love to do exactly
As my teacher says I should
I love to do my homework
I never miss a day
I love the little men in white
Who're taking me away. :)

Our New Jackie O. Doll!
Good morning, young Pomonans! We were given a Jackie O. Doll. She is beautiful. We will have her in the shelving soon so come on down and see her. A patron called on Monday and asked if we would like her. Of course! She had been sitting in a closet for 15 years and now will be on display here at the library. She really is beautiful. She has authenticating papers and everything. It is supposed to be a replica of what she wore to a state dinner in India.
In other news, we will be having Infant Story time this afternoon. If you are near the library, come on down. We play with toys and listen to stories and songs. I hope you are not getting bored on your spring break! If so come on down and get on the computers or read a good book. :)
Joke of the day: Knock, Knock.
Whose there?
My Panther
My Panther who?
My Panthers falling down! :)
Many of you have been coming in. We were pretty busy this week. It reminds us of summer vacation so it's a lot of fun! See you here!

Falling For Grace
Well, young Pomonans, today I'm going to tell you a story. A real story, I'm afraid.
This morning found me yet again at the dentist. Things didn't go quite as planned and it took longer than we expected. Time passed quickly and I had a very short time in which to get to the library for story time. When I got here, Ms. Nissa had very kindly set up the room for me and we were ready to go.
I had a very nice surprise awaiting me. My friend Grace, who entered Kindergarten this year, was there to greet me because she was on spring break. I hadn't seen her since the summer reading program and it was very good to see her.
When she was three years old, her parents had a beautiful picture taken of her. Her Mom gave me a copy and she showed me where she had written down what Grace wanted to tell me.
I quote: For Lois,
My favorite storyteller and Rap Star!
Love always, Grace
(I will leave out the last name for privacy issues.)
So there you go! Move over eminem! Ms. Lois is here to stay!!
Only a three year old could look at this 50 plus librarian and call her a rap star. I laughed so long and at the same time loved this little soul.
So today when story time came I had this wonderful memory of this special child.
Remember I told you I was stressed because I thought I would be late? That plus having novocaine at the dentist made me, shall I say, unsteady? Because half way through story time, I lost my balance and fell heading straight for Grace. I couldn't catch myself and the horror of falling on this wonderful child was terrifying. I managed to maneuver myself just to her left and landed in a heap at her side.
Now, the irony that being so completely UNGRACEFUL was not lost on me. I managed to pick myself up. You know what, young Pomonans? If I had fallen outside I would have been mortified. But here among friends it was no big deal. Children are amazing and I count myself extremely lucky to be with you all. Am I perfect? No. I have fallen for the best!
I'm not sure if you want to hear this yet but please remember this: In all situations you can find humor. It may take a lifetime to be able to see it and you just might barely be able to see it. But somewhere it is there. If you absolutely cannot see it, keep trying. And if you still can't see it you can die trying!
Lucky for me in falling for Grace the humor was easy to see.
Take care young Pomonans. You're the best!
