Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

Live Hummingbird Cam

Greetings, young Pomonans! Over the weekend I discovered this cool site where you can watch a live webcam feed of two recently hatched hummingbirds named Bea and Jay. Their mom, Phoebe, has created their nest from feathers and plants, then "glued" it together with spiderwebs. It is in a rosebush! This is not the first time Phoebe has laid tic-tac sized eggs in the rosebush. She returns to this spot pretty regularly. You can view the hatchlings at http://phoebeallens.com/. There you can click on Phoebe Facts to learn more about her and the type of hummingbird she is (Channel Islands Allen's Hummingbird) and the Links button will take you to a really neat PBS video about hummingbirds. Next time your at the library, stop by the X598.8 section and learn more about hummingbirds. Then you can keep your eyes out for hummingbirds in your garden!
