Hello young Pomonans! Yikes! The Summer Reading Program and the Reading Buddies are beginning next week! Here is information about the Reading Buddies Program in case you don't know what it is:
We pair up one elementary school student with one high school or college student so the elementary student can practice reading. They are paired up for thirty minutes. The high school or college student listens and encourages the elementary student while he/she reads.
This is one of the best things we do in the children's room. The older students enjoy helping the younger students to read and the younger students love the attention from the older students. It's a win - win program.
If you are a high school or college student in the Pomona area please come in and fill out an application. The program runs for six weeks on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. You can stay one, two or the four hours depending on how much time you have to volunteer.
It you are an elementary student entering grades one through six, come in with a parent to sign up for this great program. Last year we had over one hundred kids participate!
So bring the summer on at the Pomona Public Library. We are ready!
Joke of the day: Why are baby goats fun to play with?
Answer: They're always kidding around! :)

Hi Ms. Lois,
After reading this, I realized the summer reading program is great! I participate in a very similar program at Watts Public Library through a UCLA program called Project Literacy.
I know the program just ended last week, but I'd like to get involved in similar continuing programs if any. I don't begin school until September 24.
Please let me know. My e-mail is tiffanyleman@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Tiffany
