Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

Pomona Public Library's Beloved Grandma Jean

Jean Roman is the Pomona Public Library's beloved Grandma Jean. For the past fifteen years, Grandma Jean has been faithfully reading to our children every Wednesday afternoon from 3:30-4:30pm. She began when our Friends of the Library started the Grandparents and Books program back in 1993. Since then the Friends have moved into many other programs but our Grandma Jean stayed on.

We pull books for her to read to the children. But Grandma Jean took it to another level when she started letting the children practice their reading by letting them read aloud to the others at the table. She is always so patient and kind with everyone that we always look forward to her cheerful self! She has had "groupies" where children would come in and ask for Grandma Jean and be delighted when she walked in.

Kudos to you, Grandma Jean, from the community of Pomona. Your faithfulness and loyalty to our children make you a gem with us. We look forward to your continued and valued service.

For those of you who want to see Grandma Jean, her last session is next Wednesday, June 18th at 3:30pm. She will begin again in September.

Grandma Jean is an exceptional Grandma. She is sweet, patient, loving, caring, quilts, cooks, and has a green thumb. Grandma is similiar to the Energizer bunny she just keeps going and going & loving and loving. She adopted me when I was 17yrs old into her family. My children now get to call her Grandma. I agree there should be more Grandma's like Grandma Jean!!! We love you Grandma!!!

Grandma Jean sets the standard of a "Beloved Grandma Jean" and there are very few who can surpass her as a "beloved mother". I should know because I am her daughter and so very proud and fortunate to be able to call her "Mom".

The Pomona Public Library and all of Grandma Jean's "groupies" are aware of what a special woman Grandma Jean is and this world is a better place because of her.

I love you Mom.

Your daughter Julie.
