Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

Two Special Programs at PPL

Hello young Pomonans! Yesterday and today we had two special programs here at the library.

Yesterday we had the Boys and Girls Club from Madison Elementary school here for a visit. Ms. Nissa gave them a tour of the library and then I had a "booktalk" for them. They were third and fourth graders so I couldn't just read them picture books. I found books that they might not have heard of and talked about them. I have so much fun telling a story and then not telling them the ending. They have to read it to see what happened. That is great fun to do! I talked about "Hatchet", by Gary Paulsen; "The Magic Tree House" series by Mary Pope Osborne. The "Boxcar Series" by Gertrude Warner and actually read them, "Tikki Tikki Tembo" by Arlene Mosel. I didn't bother going into "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid" or "Twilight" because they already know about those.

Today our group was from San Jose Elementary. They came in two large buses. They were six graders and they toured City Hall, the Counsel Chambers and the library. They were all very well behaved and asked really good questions.

If you would like a tour of the library, give us a call. You need to be located in the City of Pomona. Our telephone number is: (909) 620-2043 ext. 2730.

Let us hear from you!

Joke of the day: How can you get your ballpoint pen to march?
Answer: Yell, "Left! Write! Left! Write, Left!" :)
