Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

Karen Rae Kraut, Storyteller!

Good Wednesday, young Pomonans! Boy oh boy, we had a GREAT time today with storyteller, Karen Rae Kraut. She had this HUGE background and told stories standing in front of it. She was so good at involving the kids in her stories. She even had the adults joining in! If you weren't here you REALLY missed out. Join us for the next six weeks for our activities. They will be every Wednesday at 3:30pm. Next week we are having a craft.

See you here!!

Joke of the day: What do you call a rooster that crows every morning?

Redding Public Library Redding, California

Good Tuesday, young Pomonans! I was very fortunate to have gone on vacation last week to visit some dear friends in Redding, California. Of course, I HAD to make a stop at their public library and loved what I saw! They have a wonderful library and a GREAT room for their children. I started outside and worked my way into the children's area. They had a nice adult area but was more concerned with the children's room! They have a large reading area pretty close to the size of ours but different shaped. They had a story hour room that was nice but wasn't as fabulous as ours! I did go to their story time and had a great time.

One thing I liked very much was they had more staff. They had staff to do the story time and two other staff members to do the puppet show. The more staff you have, the more programs you can do which helps out the children even more. As you can see in one of the pictures they have the same reading program theme as we do. "One World, Many Stories." Most libraries across the United States have the same theme. I love that! I took note on the different ways they were using the theme. I get most of my "original" ideas from other libraries! ;)

As you go on vacation this summer, try to visit different libraries. It's a lot of fun and you can compare your own library to theirs. Which do you like better? It doesn't matter because you can make your own library really great. Talk to us! That's what we are here for!

Have a fabulous summer and see you here!!

Joke of the day: Why does the snake lose all of his arguments?
Answer: Because he doesn't have a leg to stand on. ;)

If you CAN read, you count the hours you have read. We give out prizes after 5, 10, 15, 20 hours of reading.

If you are a teen, you read for raffle tickets. After you read five books, you get one raffle ticket. After 10 books, you get two raffle tickets. I won't say what we are raffling off, but you are going to WANT it!!!

If you need more information, please come in to the library and ask. That is what we are here for!!

Joke of the day: What do jokes and pencils have in common?

Good day, young Pomonans! The Summer Reading Program is coming soon! Our theme this year is "One World, Many Stories." Sign ups begin June 20, 2011 and the first day to turn in hours is June 27th.

Our Reading Buddies Program sign ups begin June 20th with the actual program beginning June 27th. This program is where we pair up an elementary student with a high school or college student to practice reading. This is a GREAT program because the younger children like the attention of the older students and the older students like to help the younger ones.

Stop in to the library for applications for the buddy program and for more detailed information about both programs.

See you here this summer!!

Joke of the day: What do you call a short psychic that escaped from jail?
Answer: A small medium at large! (I love this joke!!!) ;)
