Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

For tomorrow and Wednesday, word is that we will be open 8:00am to noon. If you need to come into the library, come early when it is not so hot and we will be there for you!

Stay cool young Pomonans!

Joke of the day: What do you call a snowman with a tan?

Craig Newton at PPL

Good end of the Summer Reading Program young Pomonans! Thank you to all who came to our program today. You all are really good sports. The library was so hot that it was better to be outside under the shade tree where there was a breeze.

As always, Craig entertained and educated us on all his musical instruments. He truly is a one man band!

That's it. It's all over. This summer went faster than anything that I can remember. We are still here for you so please come in for books to read for fun and maybe to get ready for school as well.

Joke of the day: What makes music on your head?
Answer: A head band! ;)

Come to the End of the Summer Reading Program Party With Craig Newton!

Hello young Pomonans! These are pictures of Craig Newton when he was here two years ago. He will be giving us a show tomorrow afternoon (Aug. 18th) at 3:30pm. We will be outside again under some trees near the courthouse. We still don't have air conditioning (sigh) so it really is cooler outside under the shade trees.

Craig does a great show. He plays many, many instruments and talks about where they come from. It is a lively show and he chooses kids in the audience to help him play the tamborine, kazoos, etc. So come on out for a stompin' good time!

Joke of the day: What is the most musical bone?
Answer: The trom-bone! ;)

Puppet Readers Theater at PPL

We had a great time with our Puppet Readers Theater! We had six cast members who were given parts to read and then they made a puppet of their characters! They did a really great job as you can see. We had a water theme this year so our stories were about water. At the end we passed out some puppets to the audience and the cast came out from behind the theater and danced to "Splish, Splash, I Was Taking a Bath". It was a lot of fun.

Afterwards we went out to the childrens room and everyone made a puppet, a bookworm of course!

We had a great day. It was so good to see so many of you at our show!

Joke of the day: How do you cut the sea in half?
Answer: With a sea saw! ;)

Puppet Readers Theater This Wednesday At PPL!

All right all you puppet fans - our Puppet Readers Theater is finally here! This puppet theater was given to me by my children's librarian. Our six puppeteers have made puppets for our readers theater scrip and we will present our show on Wednesday at 3:30pm. We will try to have it in the story hour room but if we have too many people we will have it in our Laura Ingalls Wilder room.

See you here!

Joke of the day: Where do books sleep?
Answer: Under their covers! ;)

A Wonderful Time With Michael McCarty

We had a great time with Michael McCarty today. He told Anansi stories from West Africa. Anansi is a trickster spider who everyone gets annoyed with!

Michael told stories and then he asked questions about his stories. He gave a book and a bookmark to the child who answered the question correctly. I think about ten of you won books. What a great giveaway!

We will definitely have him back.

Joke of the day: What type of animal needs oil?
Answer: A mouse because it squeaks!
