Welcome to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Children's Room!

Ms. Clara Webber was the first children's librarian of Pomona Public Library. A long time correspondent with Mrs. Laura Ingalls Wilder, she was instrumental in having the Children's Room named in honor of Mrs. Wilder on May 25, 1950. Today, we house the original hand written manuscript for the novel Little Town on the Prairie. Every February, we host the Laura Ingalls Wilder Sociable in honor of Mrs. Wilder's February 7th birthday.

Carnegie Library, Scottsbluff, Nebraska

Greetings from Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Here is the Carnegie Library that existed in Scottsbluff. Like our own Carnegie, it did not hold all the books that was needed in this community and it was torn down and a newer one was built. My great grandparents settled in this area back in the late 1800's. They acually settled in Gering, Nebraska just south of the Scottsbluff monument. I'll write more on this later.

Greetings also from Tuscon, Arizona. Good friends live here that used to work for Pomona Public Library. Some of you may remember Marisa Abramo and if you do, she says hi right back at you!

I will be visiting a Mission here in Tuscon and I'll take a lot of pictures. I'll be posting these things when I get home. I can't believe that I will be home Thursday. This trip has gone so fast!!

See you soon!

Joke of the day: What is the best trip you never want to take?
Answer: The one where you end up on the floor! :)
(I've taken both and I'm here to tell you ...)

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersein, Adieu! Going on vacation!!!

Adios! That's right I'm going on vacation. Today is my last day at work and I leave for the good old midwest on Monday. I haven't visited my family for several years and it will be good to see them.

I plan on going to as many libraries as I can and I may blog from on the road. I'll try to talk Ms. Nissa and Grandma Sue to continue blogging from home.

We had a terrific summer! I can't remember laughing this hard in a long time. The final count for our readers this summer is: 1,018 readers! We met our goal and surpassed it and had a lot of fun along the way.

You have a couple of weeks to rest and then school begins again. Remember that we are here for you!

Joke of the day: Why did the blue jay get a perm?
Answer: Because the curly bird catches the worm. :)

Summer Reading Program Party 2008

We had soooo much fun at our end of the Summer Reading Program Party! Our good friend Abbit the Average came and entertained us very well. He always gets belly laughs from the kids and I never get tired of that! (He gets belly laughs from the staff as well!) He is one of our most favorite entertainers and no matter how often we see him we enjoy him more and more.

We owe a big gratitude to the Friends of the Pomona Public Library for funding our programs. They are so very generous to us. One of the pictures here represents a small fraction of them. Thank you Friends!

Please keep coming into the library. Even though our program is over we are still here for you. Plus we miss seeing you when you don't come in. :)

Joke of the day: Who can write a children's book and give a great massage at the same time?
Answer: Dr. Masseuse. :)

Pewter Citrus Labels

These are pictures of pewter citrus labels the City had made for it's 100th birthday back in 1987. I've been here 18 years and I didn't realize we had these. A friend of mine who used to work here mentioned them and I went to look for them. They really are colorful and another beautiful remembrance of our rich history. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I do.

Joke of the day: What do jigsaw puzzles do when they get bad news?
Answer: They go to pieces! :)

Reader's Theater 2008

What a great time we had with Reader's Theater the past two days. Every year the day before a Reader's Theater performance and the day of the performance are the busiest days of the year for me, and it's all worth it. It's worth it because you all have such fun with it. And that's the point: you have fun reading. Both of your songs were great too. "There Ain't No Bugs On Me" (yes, the dog in the commercial is sooooo cute) and "The Ants Go Marching" were a big hit. A big thank you to all of you who came to all the rehearsals and the performance. The earthquake took away a rehearsal but you more than made up for it in enthusiasm.

GREAT WORK PEOPLE!!

Joke of the day: Knock-knock.
Whose there?
Fangs.
Fangs who?
Fangs a lot! :)

Next week we will have our crafts on Tuesday and our Reader's Theater performance will be Wednesday, both at 3:30pm.

Be there NOT elsewhere!
